WHAT WE’RE DOING

Basically, we’re raising money to make this film happen! One of the most interesting aspects of this project is that we’re using a distinctly American convention of storytelling (the film noir) to tell a story set in 1920s China. We like to think of “Above the Sea” as a “proto-noir,” an origins story about the femme fatale and how trying to survive in the gritty underworld of 1920s Shanghai creates this film noir archetype. 

“Above the Sea” is a short film by Columbia University graduate film students that plans to begin principal photography on a studio backlot in Shanghai this September. But in order to make this happen, we need your donations to help us reach our $25,000 goal.  We appreciate any support you can give us and please help us spread the word about this project!

as of April 30, One World Trade Center aka the Freedom Tower officially became the tallest building in NY. to commemorate that milestone, EarthCam released this timelapse vid of the progress made and shot in the last 8 years.

weirdly, and randomly, i started humming this tune when i was making breakfast this morning. and then i started singing it, somehow remembering all the lyrics, but unable to recall who sang it exactly. thank goodness for google/youtube. 

despite the growing popularity of Crossfit, Reebok (which sponsors the Games) doesn’t seem to be really cashing in on the momentum. (what’s up, you guise? this is pretty much the ideal time for a comeback.) no, instead, they’ve let Adidas into the arena with this pretty cool promo.

i do the “right” kind of sit ups during my workouts, but dayum—consciously making an effort to press your lower back into the mat makes a HUGE difference. thanks, Bob Harper!

RIP Whitney Houston. it’s unbelievable. what a waste of talent. i remember watching The Bodyguard in the theater as a kid and just being in awe of this woman and the music that came out of her. so sad. 

The Bourne Legacy trailer | i’m gonna miss Matt Damon, but Jeremy Renner + Rachel Weisz + Edward Norton + Joan Allen + Albert Finney + Oscar Isaac + Jason Strathairn + Scott Glenn + Corey Stoll sounds pretty good.
