Cowboys & Aliens (2011) | so much fun to watch (after all, it stars Indy and Bond!), but it’s not without its absurdities/deus ex machina logic holes. but then again, it is a movie about cowboys and aliens. also, Jake Lonergan is a damn good character name.

watched Casino Royale for the 81035235th time last night. there’s so much to love about this installment. interestingly, Paul Haggis said that he (re)wrote the screenplay backward, by reworking the third act first and then building the rest of the story around it. seems to have worked quite well. and in other Bond news, Sony and MGM have reached an agreement to make and release Bond 23 and 24. huzzah.

…Reports of 007’s motion picture demise because of MGM’s near-bankruptcy have been greatly exaggerated…While Sony, Fox, and Warner Bros would love to grab the Eon Productions franchise, I’m told reliably that as long as MGM’s debt restructuring is preceded by a pre-packaged bankruptcy, Bond isn’t going anywhere…While the studio’s beleaguered backers unwisely allowed MGM and its library to languish by not making new movies and benching MGM’s creative and marketing/distribution executives…MGM has made sure to meets the minimum obligations to its two gems, James Bond and The Hobbit.

…director Sam Mendes responded to the Bond delay by setting a feature adaptation of the Ian McEwan novel On Chesil Beach and directing the Broadway-bound musical adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Daniel Craig is taking other jobs, too. He’s starring in Cowboys & Aliens and negotiating to star in the David Fincher-directed The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo…both talents fully plan to come back to James Bond after MGM sorts itself out.

well hopefully this is true and not just good damage control. thanks to angelsdiaz for the heads up.

It’s been confirmed that JAMES BOND 23 is now officially canceled. The movie’s future had been in doubt for awhile, as have all properties associated with MGM, but now it’s most definitely not happening anytime soon…

It’s a damn shame because JAMES BOND 23 was going to be directed by none other than Oscar winner Sam Mendes, with a script from Peter Morgan.

well that sucks.

James and Vesper’s first scene is one of my favorites. it’s just written so well—full of wit, snark and sarcasm, but also very telling and provides great exposition for the characters.
